Baseball Game

The City of Piedmont is proud of its parks and recreation facilities.  The park system is administered by a City Council appointed board of directors.  The board administers an annual budget, supervises all park activities including a summer little league baseball and soccer program.  A park commissioner and his staff are directly responsible for the park board.

The City has three baseball field, tennis courts, sand & badminton court, nature trails and other playground programs.  The Clearwater R! School shares the use of these facilities assists the parks with financial support and maintenance.

The Community also has a nine-hole golf course, The Canyon Club, which has a swimming pool and beautiful clubhouse.  Many social activities take place at the golf course clubhouse and grounds.

Clearwater Lake

Clearwater Lake

Clearwater Lake is noted for the grandeur of it hills, natural springs, and splendid beauty.  The absence of private boat docks appeals to those seeking a “wilderness Lake”.  A skier’s paradise, Clearwater Lake, has acres of smooth, deep water for sport.  Many boaters enjoy taking their vessels onto the main portion of the lake to try their luck at catching a few of the many bass, crappie, bream and catfish, which lurk beneath the waters.

For those who want to take a break on dry land, Clearwater has an abundance of sightseeing on its 16,100 acres.  Those looking closely may catch a glimpse of squirrel, raccoon, turkey, rabbit or deer on one of the lake’s trails or watchable wildlife area.

Best of all, your visit to Clearwater doesn’t have to be limited to a day trip.  There are plenty of spots to pitch a tent or park your camper in campsites without electricity, showers, restrooms, and dump stations are available at all of Clearwater’s campgrounds.  In addition, several parks have swim areas and boat launches.  Visit one of Missouri’s Hidden Jewels, Clearwater Lake near Piedmont, Missouri.

Hiking
There are several hiking trails located on the Clearwater Lake Project. These trails provide scenic views and the chance to see a large variety of wildlife. Deer, squirrel, and turkey are just a few of the types of animals that can be found along the forested trails.

The Bluff View Nature Trail is a .6-mile hike that takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. It offers a picturesque view of the lake and river valley. The trail is rated moderate in difficulty. This is a foot trail only. Sorry, no bicycles allowed. The trailhead is located near the restrooms in C-section of Bluff View Park.

The Black River Nature Trail is an .8-mile trail that is rated moderate and is accessible from River Road Park. It winds its way though oak-hickory hilltop woods alongside the Black River. Several locations provide benches to rest and lookout platforms for a bird’s eye view of the river. Hiking this trail takes about ½ hour. This trail gives access to two other trails, the Bottom Land Forest Trail and the Blue Heron Slough Trail.

The Bottom Land Forest Trail, located near River Road Park, can be accessed by taking the Black River Nature trail or via canoe/kayak. Canoe landings are posted along the shoreline and benches are nearby so you can sit and enjoy the scenery. This scenic trail weaves its way through a bottomland forest (of course!), cane breaks, a warm season grass field that is scattered with cactus, and on top of a bluff overlooking the Black River. This moderately difficult trail is one mile long.

The Blue Heron Slough Trail is the third trail near River Road Park. It is 1/5 mile long and is also accessible via the Black River Nature Trail or canoe/kayak. If you’re quiet you may view great blue herons, wood ducks, and turtles in this old river channel pond. A wildlife food plot is at the end of this trail. This trail is rated moderate.

The Black River Nature Trail, Bottom Land Nature Trail, and the Blue Heron Slough Trail are all part of a series of trails that wind through our Watchable Wildlife Area. This is a wildlife reserve area, with food plots scattered throughout, to provide an ample supply of food for the animals to thrive on.
